Sony Xperia 5 is the Smaller Sibling of the Xperia 1

Sony kick off its IFA 2019 show with the announcement of the company's latest smartphone, dubbed the Xperia 5. It comes with a 6.1-inch 21:9 CinemaWide OLED HDR display with Full HD+ (1080 x 2520) resolution, so it's basically the compact version of the Xperia 1 flagship.

The Xperia 5 is also equipped with the same triple lens camera system from the Xperia 1. The three 12MP sensor camera is moved to the upper left corner, the camera consists of a 16mm lens for super-wide angle shots, a versatile 26mm lens and a 52mm portrait and tele lens for 2x optical zoom.

The new phone also has the Eye AutoFocus technology, which supports continuous burst shooting at up to 10 fps AF/AE tracking (Auto Focus and Auto Exposure). Sony says the Xperia 5 has increased the AF/AE calculations at up to 30fps allowing you to capture moving subjects better.

Just like the Xperia 1, the new device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of expandable storage via microSD card slot. It also has Creator Mode which bringing precise colour reproduction and Cinema Pro “powered by CineAlta” app for professional cinematic capture.

Other specs included stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back, IP65/68 dust and water resistance, an 8MP selfie camera and a 3,140 mAh battery.

The Xperia 5 runs on Android 9 Pie and comes in four colour options: Black, Blue, Red and Grey. It will be available from October 2019 in select markets.
