Sony Mobile announced its new flagship Xperia 1 at MWC with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio screen and world's first 4K HDR OLED smartphone. The Xperia 1 has a 6.5-inch CinemaWide display with a resolution of 1644 x 3820. The display is powered by X1 for mobile engine and support 10 bit tonal gradation, BT. 2020 colour space as well as DCI-P3.
The Xperia 1 comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage via microSD card slot. The handset is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance; while the glass on the front and back is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
The Xperia 1 has a triple lens camera (three 12MP sensor) setup: a 16mm for wide shots (1/3.4-inch, f/2.4), a 26mm standard view (1/2.6-inch, f/1.6, OIS) and a 52mm lens for telescope shooting (1/3.4-inch, f/2.4, OIS, 35mm equivalent). The camera features the world's first Eye AF (autofocus) and also delivers 10 fps burst shooting with autofocus and auto-exposure tracking.
The camera is able to captures better low light images thanks to the large 1.4μm dual photo diode image sensor and RAW noise reduction. In addition, the camera is also capable to shot 4K HDR at 24 fps (frames per second) in 21:9 format. Last but not least, there's an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 lens, portraits selfie effect and display flash.
Other specs included a 3,330 mAh battery, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, Dolby Atmos sound, stereo speaker (earpiece + bottom-firing speaker) and runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box. The Sony Xperia 1 will be available in Black, Purple, Grey and White colours. Sony has yet to reveal the price, but it is expected to launch in select markets from late Spring 2019.
