Meet the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet: the World's Thinnest and Lightest Waterproof Tablet


Sony debuts the Xperia Z2 Tablet alongside the Xperia Z2 smartphone at Mobile World Congress on Monday. Sony managed to trim down the device's thickness to an ultra-thin 6.4 mm thick, which is 0.5 mm slimmer than it's predecessor - the Xperia Tablet Z (measuring at 6.9 mm thick).

On the other hand, Sony has reduced the weight of the Z2 Tablet by 70 g, which the WiFi model weighs only 426 g (vs 496 g on Tablet Z). On top of that, the Xperia Z2 tablet is officially replaced the Tablet Z as the world's slimmest and lightest waterproof slate.


The Z2 Tablet has a huge specs bump from the original slate, it is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.3 GHz Quad-core CPU and 3 GB of RAM. It will comes in 16 GB of internal storage with microSD card support up to 64GB.

The Z2 Tablet sports the same design language with the OmniBalance style as on the Tablet Z. You'll get the same 10.1 inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD screen, however it will feature the latest Sony TV display technologies for mobile with the Live Color LED, Triluminos Display, X-Reality and IPS technology.


Other specs included an 8.1 MP rear camera, a 2.2 MP front facing camera, IP58 dust and water resistant, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE and a 6,000 mAh battery on board. There's also a front facing stereo speakers with S-Force Surround technolgy.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. It will start shipping from March and available in Black and White. Unfortunately, Sony has not disclose any pricing for the Z2 Tablet.
