This year Huawei has been released the smaller Mate S at IFA, but it doesn't stop the Chinese phone manufacturer from unveiling another flagship phablet - dubbed the Mate 8. Like the Mate7, this model also features a large 6-inch 1080p IPS display with 368 ppi and 95% of colour gamut. What's more, it also covers a great 83% body-to-screen ratio.
Undoubtedly, the main highlight of this device is the new 64-bit Octa-core Kirin 950 processor. This new SoC consists of four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and four Cortex A53 cores running at 1.8 GHz, manufactured using the new 16 nm FinFET+ process, coupled with a Mali-T880 GPU and an integrated LTE Cat 6 modem plus an i5 sensory co-processor.
The Mate 8 sports an aluminium chassis and comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. As for the camera, the phablet uses a Sony's IMX298 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.8-inch sensor, optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus and dual-tone LED flash. There's also an 8 MP f/2.4 front-facing camera.
Other specs included dual-SIM support, 4G LTE connectivity, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with AGPS, Glonass and Bei Dou, a microSD card slot with support up to 128 GB cards as well as a 4,000 mAh battery.
The Huawei Mate 8 will runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the company's EMUI 4.0. It comes in 4 colour options there are Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, Champagne Gold and Mocha Brown. The handset will be available in three versions: 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage, 4 GB RAM with 64 GB and 4GB RAM with 128 GB storage; they are priced at CNY2,999 (about RM2,000), CNY3,699 (about RM2,470) and CNY4,399 (about RM2,940) respectively.
The device is currently only available in China. The international availability of the Mate 8 is expected to be revealed at CES 2016.
