Oppo Introduces the World's Thinnest Smartphone - the R5 at Just 4.85 mm

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo announced the mid-range R5 smartphone. The new Oppo R5 is the world's slimmest smartphone, measured at just 4.85 mm thick.

Despite the ultra thin design, this new device still packs a powerful hardware for its class. It is build with an aluminium alloy micro-arc frame and features a cooling technology dubbed Cool Element Phase-Shifting.

Inside the chassis, the R5 is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a standard 2 GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the R5 only has a 16 GB of non-expandable storage (no microSD card slot) and without the 3.5 mm connector too.

There is a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and pixel density of 423 ppi. Other features included 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, GPS, micro SIM and a 2,000 mAh battery with VOOC rapid charging.

The photography side, it sports a 13 MP rear camera with a LED flash and Sony Exmor IMX214 BSI sensor, 5 MP wide angle front shooter, large aperture f/2.0 for both camera and supporting 4K video recording as well as 720p slow motion video at 120 fps.

The Oppo R5 runs ColorOS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. This LTE smartphone is expected to roll out later this year with a price tag of $499 (around RM1,643) and comes in Silver and Gold colour.

UPDATE: Oppo R5 (Silver) is now available for RM1,698.
