Samsung Exynos 5 Octa Processor is Now a Real Octa-core

When Samsung introduced their first Octa-core processor the Exynos 5 Octa 5410, it was not the "true" eight core processor since they can't actually use all eight at once. It consists of two Quad-core processor which are a Big cores - Quad Cortex-A15 and a Little cores - Quad Cortex-A7. With the big.LITTLE configuration, the processor switching between the Big A15 core and Little A7 core depends on the workload.

But now, with the company's new Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution, the new Exynos 5 Octa 5420 SoC can allows the big.LITTLE configuration to runs the two Quad-core simultaneously. Which means a real Octa-core performance without the need to switch back and forth between the Big A15 and Little A7 core.

The implement of the HMP solution is going to increase both performance and efficiency of the processor. The HMP solution for Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa application processors will be available to customers starting from 4Q of 2013.

However, Samsung is not the only one that wielding this HMP solution in their processor, as MediaTek announced its company true Octa-core and as a first adopter of a true, authentic octa-core SoC in a mobiles device.
