Qualcomm's Toq Smartwatch to be Launch on December

The well-known chip maker for mobile processor, Qualcomm is ready to release their first ever wearable device. The company has set its Toq smartwatch release date to 2nd of December for the US market.

The Qualcomm Toq (pronounced as "talk") packs a Mirasol display, wireless charging and it will cost you $350 (around RM1,115). Qualcomm claimed that it will have mutiple days of battery life and an optional stereo bluetooth audio headset will be made available later.

The Toq smartwatch will be works with any Android smartphones that run on version 4.0.3 and above via bluetooth connectivity. Looks like the smartwatch business is becoming more and more popular as there will be more smartwatches to pop out into the market.

Toq Smartwatch from Qualcomm

Qualcomm the giant chips maker for smartphone and tablet had announced its first smartwatch by CEO Paul Jacobs at its Uplinq conference in San Diego. The first time for the company that doesn't normally make consumer devices unveiled the wearable device, the Toq smartwatch.

The display of the smartwatch uses Qualcomm's Mirasol technology, it display color, can work with or without illumination and requires very little power. Like other smartwatches, it allow users to check texts, phone calls, and other alerts, such as calendar and WhatsApp notifications.

The battery is build in the clasp of the watch band to make the device thinner and it uses Qualcomm's WiPower technology to charge wirelessly via charging pad. The Toq smartwatch powered by a low-power 200MHz Cortex M3 processor and the battery can last about five days on a charge.

For now, Toq will only work as Android-exclusive device, but Qualcomm is considering to extend the connectivity to iOS as well in the future. It will cost about $300 to $350 and the company plans to release the Toq in the fourth quarter of this year.
